What did Judge Emmet Sullivan just do? | POLITICS NEWS

on May 16 to 20 19 Judge Emmett Sullivan ordered prosecutors to make public a transcript of phone calls between Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sir Gaius lack made late in 2016 the judge also ordered that the Flynn related parts of the Mueller report be unredacted on June 4th via minute order one that is entered by the judge and made available in an Otis Sullivan wrote on May 16th 2019 the court issued multiple minute orders that ordered the government to file on the public docket certain materials and information upon consideration of the government's submissions in response to those orders the government is not required to file any additional materials or information on the public docket pursuant to the courts orders of May 16 2019 the nature of the minut order from June 4th is much different from what Sullivan demonstrated in prior minute orders and prior statements from the bench regarding the Flynn case it is unclear what exactly the government submitted that changed Sullivan's mind but this is a major shift in his jurisprudence what we do know is that the Justice Department attorneys filed a statement on Friday claiming that the recordings were not used in establishing Flynn's guilt or in the sentencing of Flynn there are a few possibilities in all of this one is that whatever is in that recording would put national security at risk if released including the methods used to capture the call the more likely possibility is that the Trump administration knows that the actual words contained any exchange between Kozlov and Flynn would significantly damage drug because it would show knowledge and coordination with Russia it is surprising that Judge Sullivan took the government's word on things and reversed course the mission to get this transcript revealed in a court of law must continue unabated

03-06-2019 – BBC Daily Politics vs Brexit Party And Trump on D-Day Commemorations

it's Monday it's 12:15 and we're live in Westminster joining me Liberal Democrat MEP Louisa Porat brexit Party MEP Lucy Harris academic and author Matthew Goodwin and the political editor of the daily merit hypocrite hello well it is Donald Trump state visit to the UK if you had missed it we're going to reflect of course on some of the comments that the president has already made before even leaving the United States we're going to talk a little bit more about the Twitter spat between him and the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan but first of all let's return to the principle of diplomacy should Donald Trump be able to say what he likes about British politics or should he keep schtum Luise well it's funny isn't it that actually when Obama made some very sensible comments on brexit in the back of the kill all these brexit ears were criticizing him for wading into British politics and now somehow it's deemed acceptable that Trump is commenting on a Tory leadership race my point Joe is it's really important because the definitional creep that we've got in our political debate now is really dangerous because everything now is fascist everything's racist everything is a extreme it this visit was supposed to be about a polite lunch with the Queen but President Obama has found himself in the middle of an ugly British political catfight now with an undercurrent of racism the president left firmly onto one side Prime Minister David Cameron side in the angry referendum debate here on whether Britain should stay in or leave the European Union stay in he said you're better off and if the side that wants out thinks Britain can get its own special quick trade deal with the u.s. once it leaves think again that's not gonna happen anytime soon because our focus is in negotiating with a big block of the European Union to get a trade agreement done and UK is gonna be in the back of the queue can I ask you about premise Johnson yes you looking forward to working with Prime Minister well I like them I've always liked him I don't know that he's gonna be chosen but I think he's very very good guy a very talented person yeah I like him very much but I haven't gotten to any point where you know it's early in that process we haven't discussed that do you think I think you can say what you like it sir we live in a freedom of speech I'd like to push that forward I think he can say what he likes I think the situation between Sadiq Khan and Donald Trump you know I think it's clearly Sadiq Khan trying to get a bit more PR out of this it's him rubbing him up the wrong way to get a bit more attention whilst Donald Trump is here in the UK and of course it's a it's a going to he wants it to be a historic you know spat between the Mayor of London and Donald Trump the President of the United States and looks like he's getting his own way studio in just a moment but I think we can talk to the Labour MP and supporter Sadiq Khan Roopa hook was it foolishly nasty of him to write that opinion editorial in The Observer likening the President of the United States to a fascist well I think it was some very important points were made in the piece it was a thoughtful piece and you know fascism it doesn't have to be someone with a sort of toothbrush moustache in jackbooted which obviously Trump isn't but I think there are worrying wider trends and you know we could be on the start of a slippery slope really if we look at what's happening in other countries around the world Boston are oh Viktor Orban salvini in Italy and we've seen the results of the European elections here so I think as I say fascism doesn't all come at once but it looks like we're on the start of a slide and I think he's right to caution some of the tricks that Trump does to prey on vulnerable people and completely out of a playbook of the rise of far-right regimes in the third sluicey I think this is precisely by the Labour Party lost in the European elections because they refused to acknowledge the reasons why people are voting the way they are voting currently they refused to actually confront ideas and actually come to the help of the people that they are supposed to be representing look at the Labour Party they should be up north looking after the working-class but they're not manifest if you all talk over each other nobody is going to hear what you're saying in response to what Rupa Hook is saying I mean is Donald Trump entitled or not to hit back against a man who calls him a fashion well I do think that as Matthew suggested earlier this actually works rather well for both of them it appeals to both of their bases lots of Londoners they're unhappy about don't look Trump in coming and coming here and having the pageantry and all the pomp surrounding a state visit and it also plays well to Trump's base in the United States however is not a new thing this has been going on for two years and I remember two years ago covering tweets by Donald Trump about in the wake of the London Bridge terror attacks I remember Sadiq Khan hitting out at Trump after the the Muslim countries travel ban and suggesting that all that everybody was welcome here and in Trump then going on TV and suggesting that they could have an IQ test and see who is the smartest out of both of them yeah this has been going on for a couple of views and actually I think it please we'll both through the basis well to some extent but the Trump never backs down from a fight so and Sadiq Khan knows this yeah and I I also think it's an opportunity for the far left in this city to come out and just play and and just get their anti-capitalist agenda out there and to kind of do word bingo like fascist and racist and and and really it and get the attention and to stir the controversy whereas actually Sadiq Khan said that London is open to the world for business well if it is it needs to be looking to the United States what do you say to that I mean I just think that it seems very petty for the leader of the free world to be picking a fight with the son of a bus driver the whole thing is very unbefitting it just doesn't seem very adult and there's a long child sheet against him in fact you can find footage from Boris Johnson in 2015 saying this man is unfit to be the president of the u.s. I mean this is before he was elected so we are where we are and I agree that into actually a state visit this early on it's not normal these State visits are very rare in it's the first one of this year the only one of 2018 was granted to the king of the Netherlands only two American presidents have had them before so that's a sort of level above the state visit with all the trimmings the Royal stuff and it's only to raise amazed desperation the January that he took office she was the first person who went over her desperation for trade deals but got us into this and it seems like a sort of annual thing though because this balloon flying over London we saw it almost exactly twelve months ago so you know well I think you know the last most recent presidents have had state visits and so I think it makes sense to continue on that trend if you do see this special relationship enduring into the 21st century and also with an economy that is booming in the US right now there's prosperity to be shared and brexit is being reset here in this country there'll be a new prime minister it's time for Noren hsm to say well it's not up for sale I mean the thing free trade is definitely beneficial from his nature yesterday's no and honestly it it really is disappointing as an American on the eve of the 75th anniversary of d-day that you do not think that the head diplomat of the United States of America doesn't get a state visit in this country when we will be the first one to defend you if Russia ever comes to attack you or anyone else for the money and what we're trying to do in in the brexit party is actually start things in a different way we're trying to get policy from the people we're trying to ask people what they want what they want we're trying to make it more democratic and I think that's better you know look at the Tory Party look at how they make satia do you have members yet rather than being a business owned by their ja Faraj I no no no Portis no no we have about so we've been around for about five weeks and I think it's a you know it's a growing party obviously was incredibly successful it is a party now it's absolutely a party were called the brexit party it's not we I mean it's a party that's going to be changing politics and this is what we wanted to set up people need to know how you're going to change it what is the possibility tomorrow well it's will let you come to the press conference and you have been invited so come along and we're really excited because it's going to be a new way of doing things it's not just going to be this static way of introduce my briefly just come in I do think that it's a potential challenge maybe problem for the brexit party in that you've got some of the candidates that are traditionally from the left or even communists left to further back in their life stories and you've got somebody like Nigel Farage who's really quite sort of a traditional conservative in many respects so there's going to be I think an inevitable tension within the party around where does it stand on the economy so is it sort of low regulation low tax or is it a bit more sort of intervention as and protectionism in the old left tradition why does it sound on immigration is somebody like Claire Fox gonna say yeah let's let's stop all immigration or whatever it isn't into the okay so that that's an interesting point which which interesting the UK didn't have because you Kip was which it was a much more sort of binary in that sense yeah it was a sort of pure I think that's a challenge why should people vote for you beyond this one policy of leaving the EU if you might have a big state or you might have high taxes or you may be in favor of the NHS being part of a future trade deal or you might not people won't know will they well we're giving them a sale and those are you having a policy forum or again I mean yesterday I mean yep we're going to be using we're going to be using technology to be able to actually vote what we want it's going to be a completely different way of doing the popular on all all right well let's talk about the Liberal Democrats because people might say Louisa that you are also really a one policy party that the region reason you had this recent surge in the European elections particularly is because you attracted people who want to stop brexit and stay within the EU more than that people don't really know I think certainly are clear and unequivocal position against brexit has helped us but that's not all that we stand for and we've got a long history as a party and we've stood in general elections on a much broader platform and we have a wider offer to the country and actually I think what really illustrates that we do have a border appeal and even beyond for those at not just to those who voted to remain is that we did really well in the local elections recently as well including in leave areas and we took votes of both labor and the Camorra well one of the policies there one of the leadership contenders has said that you should ban internal flights to out green the Greens the greens have one MP is that your route to power well look at Devi is one of our leadership candidates we've got two very excellent candidates candidates much in contrast to the Tory leadership election where you know we've got 13 people being paraded most of them who stand for a hard brexit and don't have any vision for the country beyond that alright we've run out of time but from all of us here bye-bye you
